The First Steps
to a comprehensive assessment
to a comprehensive assessment
When you contact Brock Psychological Services, you will be booked for a 50-minute intake appointment with one of our psychologists. The purpose of this appointment is for you and your psychologist to get to know each other and for the psychologist to gather the information about your symptoms/experiences and history that they need to determine your assessment and treatment needs. This appointment is also your opportunity to express your goals for your treatment and to ask any questions about any of our services that you may be interested in. After the initial appointment, if you wish to proceed we will schedule whatever services you and your psychologist have agreed upon, which could include any or all of the following: a quantitative EEG assessment, formal psychological assessment, and/or psychotherapy.
Before beginning any Neurotherapy (feedback or stimulation), it is important to do a quantitative EEG (electroencephalogram) assessment, also known as a “brain map” or a QEEG. This involves recording your brain wave activity, using sensors placed on the head, with both eyes open and eyes closed conditions. The result of the QEEG is a detailed analysis of your brainwave function, including a comparison to a large normative database of EEGs (age-matched) as well as a comparison of EEG ratios across various sites within your own brain. After the collection and analysis of your QEEG, together with the information regarding your psychological functioning obtained from your first appointment, we will develop a treatment protocol tailored to your individual needs.
At Brock Psychological Services, we provide a variety of assessment tools in order to quantitatively assess your symptoms and experiences. The information provided is then evaluated as one piece of your case (which could also include, for example, Neurotherapy and psychotherapy) and can assist your psychologist in the development of your treatment protocol. At this time, we offer psychodiagnostic, trauma/PTSD, return-to-work, and post-concussion psychological assessments.
